Where are the Best Drug Rehab Centers?
What is drug addiction?
With drug addiction at an all time high drug rehab centers are required now more than ever. But what is drug addiction and how does it manifest itself? We have spoken to some of the best drug rehabilitation centers in our city to find out more about what addiction is and how it can affect the drug user.
Although addiction is a very complex thing, it usually takes a physical and/or psychological state. But what is it? In reality it is merely a disorder that affects a huge amount of people across the whole of the US. It doesn’t discriminate or pick and choose who it affects - it can happen to anyone from any walk of life, from any background, from any income level. Even the mentally resilient can be affected by it. When it comes to drugs there are two main ways to identify is someone may have a problem with addiction, there are:
1) They have difficulty controlling the amount of drug(s) that are taken
2) They have difficulty controlling how often they take drug(s)
Unfortunately most users are unable to identify and admit that they have a problem with addiction and this is further compounded by the fact that most drugs will impact upon brain chemistry, making it virtually impossible for addicts to quite without intervention.
Drug Addiction Diagnosis
There are many ways to spot and diagnose drug addiction (and the level of addiction), but many drug rehab centres will employ the methods laid out in the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). Within these guidelines are several criteria, which include, but are not limited to:
1) A patient's desire to stop using drug(s).
2) A patient's lack of control when it comes to taking drug(s).
3) A patient's level of cravings for drug(s).
4) A patient's (lack of) responsibility for their actions.
5) The state of patient’s current relationships and social interactions.
6) The state of the patient’s withdrawal symptoms (if they exist).
There are more items that can be added to this list, but as a general rule the more boxes that someone ticks the more severe their addiction is.
The above is easily spotted by a doctor or health care professional at a drug rehab center, but how can a normal person spot if someone has addiction? This is very important if you feel like a friend or relative may be showing signs of addiction. There are tell-tale signs of addiction, which include: lapses in memory and concentration; not caring about responsibilities or commitments; problems in their personal; home or work life; changes in physical appearance such as weight loss or weight gain; lack of motivation and lack of adequate sleep.
